Chasing Sunlight

Friday, November 30, 2012

Hi my loves! I'm so happy it's finally Friday and the weekend is here! I plan to just go thrifting for some cute Christmas decor with J and just spend the rest relaxing with some movies and hot cocoa! (I mean, I don't ask for much! lol) It's getting more and more difficult to get decent consistent lighting for my pictures, as we approach winter, to the point where my sis and I felt like we were actually chasing the sun for some decent pictures! It was the best I could do to not have shadows covering parts of my face and outfit! Anyway, today's look was loosely inspired by fellow bloggers. I swear y'all really push me to be more creative with my looks! I wore this fuzzy cable cardigan over a sleeveless dress cinched in at the waist with a skinny belt to pull it together. This is also a great way to keep warm and transition summer dresses into fall/winter.
Recently, my friends at Simply Be UK contacted me to check out their website and were sweet enough to let me pick out something I liked. After perusing their amazing website, I decided to check out their accessory section since I was on the hunt for a quality fall/winter handbag. There were so many I liked, but when I came across this teal beauty, I knew it was the bag for me! It's very reminiscent of another popular shopper bag that everyone has! ;) But this bag is so well made, has compartments and space enough for everything I need to carry, very sturdy, comes with a shoulder strap, and is in such an amazing vibrant teal color for fall! So if you're in the market for a great quality, gorgeous, and unique bag, head over to Simply Be and grab one for yourself or as a gift to someone else!
Style Guide: When trying this layering trick, wear a sweater that is an accent color to the dress you are wearing to give the look balance and add texture. Cinching the waist with a cognac belt, gives the overall look more shape while complementing the boots.

Fur & Bordeaux

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Hi loves! We're halfway through the week and am I the only one who feels abnormally exhausted? I'm talking heavy eyes and sluggish movements, I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way. I think after having a four day weekend, it's going to take a little while to get back into my normal routine.
I actually wore this look on Saturday to do a little shopping with my family. I kind of felt overdressed, but I've been really wanting to wear my faux fur stole, (one of my birthday gifts from J) and I love how it worked with the printed maxi (seen here) and Bordeaux turtleneck (seen here), underneath my trusty leather moto jacket (also seen here). It was a funky yet edgy look for me and I loved it. What do you think about this look?
Style Guide: When wearing a printed maxi that is in a different color than your top, throw on a nude skinny belt to pull the look together and give it balance!

Thanks so much for continuing to take the time to read, comment, and follow my blog! It doesn't go unnoticed and I am so thankful to have all of you along for the ride, have a fabulous day!

Neutrals, Tartan & Denim...

Monday, November 26, 2012

Hey loves! I hope you all enjoyed and had a happy thanksgiving with your families!  As I told y'all last week, we all went home to celebrate with my family and we had a wonderful time. We spent a ton of quality time, laughing, watching movies, light shopping, a lot of thrifting, and of course stuffing our faces. How did you celebrate? Traditionally of non-traditionally? Did you shop til you dropped on black friday? Will you be buying anything today for Cyber Monday? I'd love to hear from you! If you want to see pictures of how we celebrated, don't forget to follow me on Instagram! They have new web profiles set up, so you can follow me there!

Style Guide: When in doubt (and it's nippy outside), layer, layer, layer!! (You have also seen me wear this vest here.) A neutral toned vest will not only make your look cohesive, but also add warmth!
Sharing a little bit of my style on this blog today!

Rugged Prep...

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

Hey loves! Can you believe tomorrow is Thanksgiving? I mean, I feel like I was just ringing in the new year! Time sure does fly when you're having fun! I'm hitting the road with J, my sis, and Polo for a 7 hr road trip in a few hours! I can't wait to hug and kiss my mommy (yep, i call her that lol) and baby sis! Oh, and stuff my face...duh!! God really knew what I needed when He blessed me with my family, fiance, best friends, and so much more! I have so much to be thankful for! The list could go on forever!
Style Guide: When in doubt, shop your closet!! I had somehow totally forgotten all about these uber comfy gray riding boots and had kinda been in a rut constantly wearing my brown and camel ones. So glad I dusted these bad boys off, because they totally complemented this entire preppy look yet gave it a rugged edge, dontcha think?
This look may or may not be what I wear on Thanksgiving, don't judge ;o)
Linking up with The Pleated Poppy, Rolled Up Pretty, and Transatlantic Blonde as per usual, so head over to their blogs for some amazing style inspiration!

Vested

Monday, November 19, 2012

Hi my loves! I truly hope you had amazing weekends! Mine was one of the best I have had in a long time. As I told y'all in my last post, my birthday was Thursday and I just want to thank you so much for all of your sweet wonderful wishes. I had so much fun with my fiance, sister, best friend, and friends! They really went all out to make me feel special and thinking about it just puts a big, goofy smile on my face.
My fiance took me out to dinner at one of my favorite Italian restaurants, Carraba's, and we got all dressed up and it was so romantic and cute. I took my best friend Nikki to check out a potential wedding venue on Friday and to a few of my favorite thrifting spots. After that, we all went to dinner that night, with my sis, fiance's sis, and my college girlfriend who drove down to surprise me! After dinner, all of us went out! I am so blessed to have such loving and caring people in my life and I cherish each moment and laugh shared with them this weekend. From morning mimosa's, to a random dollar movie pit stop, to my best friend making seafood gumbo for us, hands down this was one of my best birthdays to date! If you follow me on Instagram, then you may or may not have been flooded with pictures from my birthday weekend, so please join me there
Style Guide: Try layering your fur vest over an over-sized chambray button down to add texture and contrast to your outfit!

Just Chill...

Hey loves!  I believe there's nothing like wearing a thick, snuggly, sweater in the winter. I snagged this cozy wrap sweater last spring at Old Navy on super sale, while out shopping with my mom and sisters! It feels like a blanket and  has a beautiful tribal print that becomes the focal point of the outfit, perfect for those days when you want an effortless look!

PS. Tomorrow is my BIRTHDAY! My best friend is coming down from Atlanta to help me celebrate and I plan to have a blast with her, my fiance, and sissy all weekend! ;) So I may or may not have a post for you Friday, we shall see!
Style Guide: When wearing a printed blanket wrap sweater, try cinching the sweater in at the waist with a skinny belt to add structure and shape to the flowy fabric!

Color-blocking & Leopard

Monday, November 12, 2012

Hi loves, what did you do this weekend? We were blessed over here in the Bluegrass with some gorgeous weather and took full advantage of it. J and I took Polo to the doggy park Saturday and let him get as muddy as he wanted with his new found doggy friends and then we went and saw Taken 2 later that evening. It was action filled as expected, but it didn't compare to the first one. This is the look I wore to church today, what do you think? If you're following me on Instagram, then you already saw a sneak peek of this look before it hit the blog, so follow me here for peeks into my everyday life!

Also, if you like any of my looks here on the blog, and you're on Pinterest, feel free to "pin it" below and add them to your boards! ;)
Our youth pastor said something today in his sermon that really resonated with me and it may help anyone reading this post who is going through a trying time. "God has called us to praise despite our position, knowing He is in charge of our destination." So if things seem bleak right now in your life, trust in God knowing that the best is yet to come.
Style Guide: When wearing a color blocked tunic, try adding a nude belt to not only cinch in your waist to add shape, but to neutralize the color.

Cream & Paisley

Friday, November 9, 2012

Hi Loves!  I hope you've had an amazing week :) This is another brief post, because I have really been exhausted since this whole daylight savings time thing on Sunday...am I the only one? Don't get me wrong, I loved getting the extra hour of sleep, but around 5 pm everyday this week, the sun kinda just drops out of the sky and all I want to do is sleep. I'm also learning to get creative with what little sun available to me for photos!
Style Guide: Try adding a fun printed oxford button down under a simple sweater for added warmth and a pop of color (y'all know I LOVE a pop of color) to your outfit!

Hi Loves! This post is going to be very short but first of all, I want to say thank you all so much for all of the love I have been receiving from old and new readers on previous posts, every comment and follow means the world to me! I may not be able to respond to each comment but you will see me on your blogs soon!
Secondly, President Obama got re-elected FOR FOUR MORE YEARS!!! Yes I may be yelling but not at you, just in excitement. :) I truly believe he is the best man for the job. We had a fun watch party, with patriotic decor, good food, friends, drinks, and J even drew a map that we colored red or blue according to which state's results came in. Pictures are on Instagram, so follow me here! I'm exhausted because I am awaiting President Obama's acceptance speech, so I will leave you with these pics...
We have really been blessed with some beautiful scenic trees around the neighborhood this fall and I have been taking full advantage! :)
STYLE GUIDE: Stripes with a pop of yellow or red always give a little pizzazz to any outfit! Give it a try!

Cozy Layers

Monday, November 5, 2012

Hi  loves! How were your weekends? Mine was wonderful but literally flew by!! I wore this outfit to an engagement dinner thrown for J and I, by his family. It was beautifully decorated and everyone showed up just for us! I felt so special and so loved and I smiled for about 5 straight hours! After dinner, we played some cute games, with my sister, his parents, sister, cousins, aunts and uncles and his mamaw. We really had an amazing time and I am so excited and blessed to be joining his family. If you follow me on Instagram (@Csevolutionofstyle), then you may have already seen pictures from the dinner! So join me there ;)
Style Guide: Substitute jeans with some super cozy leggings for warmth (and always wear a top/sweater long enough to cover your tush), as the temperature drops. Also, don't be afraid to throw in a pop of color to an outfit that consists of camels, blacks, and grays!

A Tribe Called...

Friday, November 2, 2012

Hi my loves! This is my first post for the month of November and I love this month for so many reasons!
1. It's my birthday month!
2. It's the beginning of the holidays!
3. Thanksgiving!(which means Christmas is around the corner :))
4. Seeing my family & friends and Christmas shopping!
5. People are just nicer around the holidays!!

Yesterday, I went to look at some potential wedding/reception venues with my sis (who is my maid of honor) and my gf/wedding planner. I wanted to be chic but very comfortable, so I threw on my favorite chunky knit over-sized cardigan, looped a large scarf over my neck, stepped into my snow-boots and headed out the door! We've visited a few gorgeous places, so the search  is officially on to find the perfect wedding venue!
Style Guide: When wearing a plain outfit without a print, try adding a colorful printed scarf  (that complements the colors in the outfit) to add some interest!
