Effortless...

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Hi Loves! I hope you're all having an amazing week so far! And to all my east coast readers, I pray you are all staying safe and dry during the hurricane. Thank you so much for all of your sweet words on my last post, it really meant a lot to me.
On to today's look, if you were to ask me what my fall "go-to outfit" was, this would be a variation of it. A thick scarf, sweater/cardigan/blazer, jeans, and boots. Simple as that. When in doubt, this look always works for me! It requires little to no effort to throw on when I'm in a hurry but yet still look put together. My blogger friend (in my head :p) Folake of Style Pantry inspired this look, how'd I do?

I have on a black cardigan and burnt orange knit snood, so I'm kinda in the Halloween spirit right? :P Tonight, I will be probably subjected to a scary movie marathon with my Fiance and lots of candy, and I may even post a pic of Polo's (our dog) costume on Friday's post! What are your Halloween plans??
Style Guide: When wearing black and white with denim, try keeping your accessories (scarf, clutch, and boots) in the same color family, for a surprising twist that makes the look cohesive!

THE LOOK: | Knit Snood: H&M '11 (similar) | Button Down: Thrifted | Boyfriend Cardigan: H&M '10 (similar) | Jeans: Gap (similar) | Boots: Target '11 (similar) | Clutch: Vintage |

What is your Fall go to outfit?? I love hearing from you!

Have a wonderful day!!

Pink Monday...

Monday, October 29, 2012

Happy (Pink) Monday Loves! Today's post is dear and special to me. Since it is October, and National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this post will be less about fashion, as I implore every woman reading this post, to self examine their breasts (here's how) or make a doctor's appointment for a mammogram. In 2009, the Lord called my Aunty Helen home due to breast cancer. She was the most amazing woman I have ever known, second to my mom. She was a woman of God, who loved her family and kids, and had an amazing spirit & personality. She always said she would be my "manager" when I grew up, because she believed I would be a star! :) We would talk about fashion and boys and she truly understood me even at that awkward teenage stage of my life through college. Words can't express how much I miss her but I am at peace knowing she is with God and I will see her one day.

Progress in the Fight Against Breast Cancer:

  • More early detection and effective treatment– Currently, about 70 percent of women 40 and older receive regular mammograms, the single most effective screening tool to find breast cancer early.  Since 1990, early detection and effective treatment have resulted in a 33 percent decline in breast cancer mortality in the U.S.
  • More hope – In 1980, the 5-year relative survival rate for women diagnosed with early stage breast cancer (cancer confined to the breast) was about 74 percent. Today, that number is 99 percent.
  • More research – The federal government now devotes more than $850 million each year to breast cancer research, treatment and prevention (compared to $30 million in 1982).
  • More survivors – Currently, there are about 3 million breast cancers survivors, the largest group of cancer survivors in the U.S.

Please go get checked ladies, thanks to new treatment, early detection, and research, the survival rates of breast cancer are steadily increasing! I am linking up with Yolo Mondays and my girls from the Bloggers Like Me blog hop for Breast Cancer Awareness, here. #BLMGirlsGoPink
Have an amazing Monday!

So Sophisticated...

Friday, October 26, 2012

It's Friday Loves! So, I sent this picture to my Fiance and he said "i like. you look sophisticated babe", hence the title of this post! lol! Speaking of which, thank you all so much for all the love you showed him in this post featuring his look! He can be so bashful sometimes, but he is just the most handsome guy in the world to me, and after he read your comments, he told me I had the best readers in the world, and i really do!

This look is featuring one of my favorite thrifted tweed blazers and a turtleneck underneath!! You may not know this but I hate turtlenecks. It's because they remind of my 3rd and 4th grade teachers who were nuns and turtlenecks were a part of their habit. (crazy right?) But I am loving this relaxed modern take on the turtleneck because of it's looseness and almost scarf-like quality when worn under a blazer or sweater. And it's also  burgundy (oxblood), perfect for Fall!

PS. Today I've been featured on my lovely blogger friend, Jessicas' blog (DahliaLynnfor her "Love You" Series. It's a beautiful idea she came up with to feature bloggers and have them express what they truly love about themselves. So hop on over and check out my post on her blog!
Style Guide: When wearing a blazer with multiple colors in it, try wearing a top that  matches one color and make it the focal point of your look!

Guy Style: Dapper Dimensions...

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

After months and months and months of asking, my Fiance finally let me feature his cute self on the blog! He has always had such effortless style and in many instances, has helped me tweak my looks before they make it on here! He wore this look to church with me on Sunday. After church, we went on a stroll downtown since it was so gorgeous outside and then decided to take some pics with the beautiful scenery as a backdrop! The yellows, browns, and reds, of his outfit were the perfect colors to complement the leaves on the trees and ground.
In this look, J chose to make his yellow sweater the the focal point, while also complementing the yellow in his plaid button down. He then layered on a camel suede blazer that provided dimension and warmth. Finally, the pocket square in his blazer added a touch of sophistication to the overall look!

THE LOOK: | Blazer: Thrifted | Shirt & Sweater: Polo Ralph Lauren | Jeans: Gap | Shoes: Unknown |

Sooo what do you think of my man's look? (Isn't he so handsome?) ;o) I love him so much and I'm so happy he finally let me take these photos of him to showcase some of his style here for y'all to see!

Have a happy hump-day!

Blood Orange...

Monday, October 22, 2012

Hi everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was the perfect balance of fun and relaxation. I had an amazing time at the step show I mentioned in the last post, Friday night and on Saturday, J and I just stayed in and ate leftovers, drank homemade margaritas, and had a Parenthood marathon!! I love lazy days, I don't get them often so when I do, I take full advantage! lol

As much as I've been loving red lately, I am also loving deep orange hues. The blazer I wore to homecoming this past weekend had orange in it (full outfit post coming soon!), the blazer I wore here during J's proposal to me was blood orange, and finally here in this look, are all examples of how much I having been loving this color. And it's not just any orange, its the deep, dark, orange, almost red color that I can't seem to get enough of! It really adds a special touch to any outfit, that a regular orange just won't do, like in this look layered over a simple oxford shirt, jeans, and leopard loafers!

Style Guide: When wearing this vibrant hue, keep every piece in the rest of the outfit subtle and almost neutral so that the sweater remains the focal point of the look.
Found the cutest pink exposed brick building and I just had to stop for a couple of quick shots!

Unforeseen Love...

Friday, October 19, 2012

Hi loves! I hope you all have had wonderful weeks and are looking forward to the weekend! I am super excited to get my weekend started tomorrow. It's homecoming at my Alma mater (UK!) and tomorrow we're going to the step show for the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Greeks. I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (so I hope my sorority wins!), and can't wait to see my sorority sisters, old friends, and just enjoy the show with my fiance and sis!
On to today's look (which was inspired by this look!), I have really been falling in love with the color red lately. I had a real aversion to this color in the past, and therefore never owned anything red, but this fall I find myself gravitating towards it. In fact, there has been a pop of red in every post this week, here and hereOn top of that, I'm wearing so much black in this look and I rarely wear black!! Don't worry, I love my bright colors, but this black on black look made me feel kinda cool and edgy. ;)
Style Guide: When wearing the top and bottom of your look are the same color, try wearing a bright scarf or necklace to break the look apart and give it some interest!
Cheers to the freakin' weekend!!

Have a great weekend loves!

Tartan & Twigs...

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

Cheers for humpday! You know, that day of the week that can either be amazing or make you long for the weekend... I really have no cute story behind this look, except that it's colorful and makes me happy that Fall weather is in full effect and that I can finally rock my layers, riding boots, and scarves! BOOM!
Style Guide: When wearing a tartan plaid oxford, try wearing accessories that complement the more understated colors in it, to really make your outfit POP!

Classic Vibrancy...

Monday, October 15, 2012

Happy Monday! How were your weekends? Mine was a little play but mostly work! As I mentioned, last week was my finals week for my grad program and I knocked out my thematic unit plan and a 27 page paper in the last 6 days! (I deserve an adult beverage lol) Anywho, on to today's outfit. When it comes to my personal style, I like to play with color, but I also love classic looks. In this look, I combined my love of the two. So while I kept the base classic, with a black fitted boyfriend blazer, striped top, and jeans. I also added a leopard scarf for warmth and neutrality and added my chartreuse loafers and red bag to add vibrancy. This is pretty much one of my go to staple looks during the Fall, so look forward to seeing variations of it here on the blog!
Style Guide: Just because it's Fall, don't shy away from incorporating vibrancy into your daily looks. Adding a brightly colored bag, shoe, or scarf, (hell all 3!), can really take the simplest outfit to the next level!

THE LOOK: | Blazer: Express (gifted by my honey 3yrs ago), similar option here! | Striped Sweater: F21 (3yrs old, but loving this option and this!) | Jeans: Gap Premium Skinny | Loafers: Urban Outfitters (lusting after these!) | Vintage Cranberry Coach Bag: Only $20 from an Atlanta thrift store! | Scarf: Aldo |

Tangerine Dream!

Friday, October 12, 2012

Yayyy!! It's finally Friday!! This has been such a crazy week for me trying to recover from a month of traveling and working on my final projects as well as having computer problems but I am still pushing through! lol. I wanted to share more details on this look from my Fall Lookbook after getting a few emails from readers about it! :) This vintage orange blazer is one of my favorites to rock this Fall and it really brought out the colors of the leaves on my sheer blouse. I decided to dress down this look with jeans, leopard flats, and a grey cross-body bag.
Style Guide:  From the runway to the blogs, deep oranges and tangerine hues are one of  the hottest colors this fall! Try adding pops of this color to your look via clothing or accessories to add some pizzazz to your look.

Purple Pleats...

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

Hi Loves!! I hope y'all have had a better day than I have lol. My computer crashed on me last night and it's in the "hospital" recovering for a few days. Great timing, seeing as how this is my finals week for my program. Anywho, it was a gorgeous but cool day yesterday so I decided to wear one of my fave maxi skirts with a buttoned up denim jacket over it for a simple yet chic look! Enjoy the pics! :)
Style Guide: Try buttoning your denim jacket over a maxi skirt or dress for a more cohesive look that enhances your curves!!
