Watch Me Work!

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

It's Humpday Loves! So here's another quick post. The title has nothing to do with my outfit like it usually does. Today's title is actually dedicated to my new "theme" song by Melanie Fiona, "Watch Me Work". For the past few days I've been in overdrive doing tons of school work early so I can relax at the beach this weekend and I had this song on repeat to get me through it. It motivated me every time I got down or frustrated and I would get right back to work lol! Do you have a song that just takes you to the next level and boosts your confidence? I'd love to hear what they are :) Enjoy the pics!

Style Tip: When you don't want to style your hair or it's wet like mine was, throw on a hat! lol

Red Hot Tribal!!!

Monday, June 25, 2012

It's Monday again Loves! I hope you all had wonderful weekends. Mine was filled with cleaning, swimsuit shopping with my sis and tons, and I do mean tons, of studying! The last two weeks of that crazy hard Reading and Language Acquisitions class (for my MAT) I mentioned to yall about, back in May, starts today so I have so many projects and work due at once that it's crazy. Plus we will be at the beach this weekend for J's cousin's wedding, so I am trying to knock out as much as I can, so I can have fun!! So my posts in these next two weeks will be brief, but I will still take the time to post looks & comment back because I love you guys! Enjoy the pics!

Style It TWO Ways: Cobalt BLUE

Friday, June 22, 2012

Happy Friday Loves! Today's post is special, because it is my first collaboration post with one of my blogger girlfriends, Melissa! I just love her style and blog so much, and I 'met' her on Instagram! I love seeing her style/natural hair pics everyday and we even have friends in common, though we've never met! So I asked her to partner up with me for the new series I'd like introduce to the blog; STYLE IT TWO WAYS. I was so happy that she said yes! We are both styling the color cobalt blue today and adding our own personal twist to it! Blogging has really been a creative outlet as well as an awesome way for me to network and 'meet' new wonderful ladies with similar interests in life and style. I love seeing how other bloggers put their spin on a look, color, or item of clothing, so I think this post, where we both show you, is a really cute idea!

This look is super simple with a few accessories to add interest to the look. I wore my cobalt blue maxi skirt you've seen before here. I decided to add my red & blue scarf to spice up my simple cream blouse, that you've seen here. I threw on my go to sandals, tribal printed clutch, and I was ready to go. My boyfriend said I "looked patriotic" lol. And he was right, something like this (maybe with a tank because of the heat & bbqs), would be perfect to wear for the 4th of July!

So don't forget to head over to Melissa's blog where she styles the cutest looks, goes to fabulous natural hair and fashion events, gives hair tips, and more! So go check out how she styled the look and tell her I sent ya! Here's a sneak peek below :

Style Tip: If you don't have a statement necklace that works with your outfit, loosely circle a light scarf around your neck to add some eye-catching interest to the entire look!

What do you think of this look styling Cobalt Blue? I'd love to hear from you! Thanks for continually supporting, commenting, and following my blog! Hope you all have a lovely weekend! :)

Turquoise & Blue Watercolor...

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Happy Humpday Loves! Thanks so much for all your lovely suggestions and sweet words on my last post! With all those ideas, I'm totally keeping the skirt! So, today's look is an example of how I revamp older clothing styles into something a little more current. This dress is about two years old, do you remember the dresses made to look like they were a skirt and tank? Well I still love this dress and its fun watercolor print, so I decided to add a thick nude belt to divide the outfit for some balance. I threw on my turquoise bubble necklace, over sized clutch, newly favorite nude sandals, and I was out the door for dinner :)

Today I am linking up with The Pleated Poppy, Rolled Up Pretty, and A Little Bit of Lacquer so head over to those lovely blogs to see what other bloggers wore today. I love looking through link ups for inspiration, who doesn't love to be stylishly inspired? Enjoy the pics! :)

Style Tip: Adding a chunkier belt to a dress with two different colors/prints on the bottom and top half, instead of a skinny one, will give you more of an hour glass silhouette in an otherwise shapeless dress.

Thanks so much for all of your continued comments and support loves, it means the world to me!

PS. Stay tuned for a cool fashion collaboration post with one of my blogger girlfriends on Friday! ;o)

Outfit Status: It's Complicated...

Monday, June 18, 2012

Happy Monday Loves!! I hope you all had lovely weekends! Mine was pretty amazing. My boyfriend and I went thrifting/antiquing on Saturday and pretended we were from out of town, determined to find random fun things to get into. (are we the only couple that does that? lol) We always have the best time when we do! We found so many cute pieces to use to decorate and we had lunch then went for an evening swim. It was so hot that day that the water felt like absolute heaven!! After we were done swimming, we ordered our fave supreme pizza and watched movies for the rest of the night. I'm getting better at "spontaneous fun", because anyone who knows me, knows I need set in stone plans lol. Life can be so much more fun unplanned though ;)

As you can tell from the title of my post (my sister's idea), it is with great trepidation that I decided to post this look! Don't get me wrong, I love the skirt and I love the chiffon blouse, but I'm not in love with them together. I fell in love with this skirt a couple of weeks ago and I was so excited to style it and wear it! But after pairing it with basic tanks, a stripe tee, and finally this blouse, something about this look still doesn't look cohesive to me...anyway, I decided to wear minimal jewelry and keep it simple with earrings and a statement necklace. So even though I almost didn't post this, I did, because one of the purposes of my blog is to reflect real, everyday fashion and style and in the real world some days/looks are just complicated! Enjoy the pics!

Mellow N' Yellow...

Saturday, June 16, 2012

Hi Loves! I just wanted to come post really quickly before the hectic weekend that consists of swimming and thrifting with J and all the studying I have to do, engulfs me! I have been loving the effortless yet chic style of maxi skirts and dresses this year as you can tell from a bunch of my previous posts. So this dress is no different, except for the fact I attempted to conquer a fear of mine in wearing this strapless halter dress. I know you're thinking to yourself, "well why did you buy it?" lol! Well I wanted to get rid of this huge insecurity I've always had with baring my arms when I first bought this nautical maxi dress in Chicago. But that was over three months ago, and I am just now daring to wear it!! I stare at it in my closet all the time, and find a reason to pass it up for something else. Well I'm over it and I figure at this point, they're my arms, and they're not going anywhere so you all get to see them in all their glory lol! I paired my new yellow bubble necklace (I know, I know, I'm the first blogger you've seen with it on! Just humor me! :P), my vintage clutch, and nude sandals to finish the look!

PS. I did a slight blow out on my hair to try something new and for a trim so that's why it's longer, more wavy, and less curly!

Style Tip: Try and let go of whatever your insecurities may be when it comes to wearing certain clothing items, because chances are, you're the only one who notices them...And you'll be missing out on some great options! :o)

Blush & Vintage Floral...

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Happy Humpday Lovies!! For this look, I've decided to wear one of my fave maxis, my blush skirt! You've seen it before in a post here. We were blessed with another gorgeous summer day, so I paired my skirt with my vintage floral button down, rolled up my sleeves and tied the bottom up for a fun flirty look. The blush skirt pulled from the pinks and yellows of my top and complemented each other. I added my cognac sandals and yellow clutch to finish it off. Enjoy the pics!

PS I am participating int eh maxi skirt/dress link up over on Mini Me Style's blog! Head over for some maxi skirt/dress style inspiration!

Style Tip: When wearing a loose flowing item on your bottom half in a breezy material, wearing a more structured shirt on top helps provide balance to the overall look.
